On August 23 to 25, 2023, Russian city Ufa, hosted the annual Petroleum Discussion Forum, DECOM-2023, attracting a diverse array of participants and experts from the oil and gas sector.
DECOM-23 spanned over three days and brought together representatives from across the industry, including oil and gas production, oil service companies, scientific institutions, and universities from Russia. With over 150 participants joining in-person across 35 organizations and over 550 more joining online, the forum featured 60 industry-specific presentations and a total of 26 hours of engaging content.
Key discussions at the forum covered a range of critical topics, including integrated asset development and management, mathematical modelling in petroleum engineering, multi-stage hydraulic fracturing technologies, well telemetry, automation, telemetry data analysis, underground gas storage monitoring, and multi-well diagnostics for oil reservoirs. Notably, a panel discussion explored topics such as standardizing geological and field data storage, applying artificial intelligence in hydrocarbon deposit design and development, and securing intellectual property for technological solutions.
DECOM-2023, now in its seventh year, continues to captivate the attention of all oil and gas industry sectors, with increasing number of participants, partners, and like-minded professionals joining the event. The event was hosted at the Sheraton Plaza Congress Hotel Ufa, uniting representatives from leading Russian oil and gas operating and service companies, as well as scientific research institutions and academic institutions from major Russian cities.
The forum's key discussions centred on the management, control, monitoring, and development of oil and gas reservoirs. Attendees had access to insights and knowledge from industry leaders through interviews, industry-specific presentations, discussions, panel sessions, masterclasses, and technical presentations, fostering a dynamic and diverse experience.
DECOM-2023 featured nine technological forum sessions showcasing innovative solutions and experiences from prominent organizations such as Gazpromneft NTC LLC, Tatneft PJSC, Bashneft-PETROTEST LLC, RN-BashNIPIneft LLC, VNIIneft JSC, and SOFOIL LLC. Meanwhile, masterclasses and technical presentations were delivered by representatives from the leading institutions and companies, further enriching the forum's content.
As per tradition, PetroCup Tournament was run throughout the event, focusing on well and reservoir management. This year the tournament comprised seven teams from oil and gas operating companies, industry scientific institutions, and specialized higher education institutions.

In accordance with the established tradition of the DECOM Forum, its participants had the opportunity to choose the host city for the next year.
The following Russian cities, including Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan, Sochi, Tyumen, Samara, and others, were nominated for DECOM-2024.
The voting results were announced on August 25 during the closing ceremony of the Forum, with the majority of votes cast for Moscow.
In April 2024, Moscow will host DECOM, representing the capital of Russia. Moscow boasts rich national traditions in the oil and gas industry and is a hub for the oil and gas sector, scientific achievements in this field, as well as the development of cutting-edge technologies and solutions for this industry.
Following each DECOM, participants are given the opportunity to vote on the city where the event will be held the following year.
The following Russian cities have been nominated for DECOM-2023: Moscow, St. Petersburg, Ufa, Sochi, Tyumen, Orenburg, and others.
According to the poll results, which were announced on October 7 at DECOM 2022 closing ceremony, Ufa (Republic of Bashkortostan) received the majority of the votes.
The next DECOM will be held on August 23-25, 2023 in Ufa, one of Russia's most iconic oil and gas cities known for its ongoing development of oil and gas industry and advanced scientific technologies.
Furthermore, Ufa is home to the branches of Bashneft-Petrotest, BashNIPIneft, and Ufa Scientific and Technical Center, all of which have long been DECOM 2023 participants and Nafta College partners.

As always, PetroCup Field Development Tournament was run during the event. Every PetroCup Tournaments always piques the interest of operating companies, oilfield service companies, and university representatives. And this year was no different.
The PetroCup Tournament was held at Azimut Hotel in Saint Petersburg. In total 11 national teams attended, comprising Russian oil and gas companies, research institutes, specialized higher educational institutions from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Samara, Ufa, Almetyevsk, Perm and Orenburg. Overt 120 members took part in PetroCup Tournament. 5 national teams participated in person and 6 teams joined online.
Over the course of three days, the participants were challenged, and each team had to perform to their best ability by applying available knowledge and experience of different professions.
This year's PetroCup Tournament featured a brand new synthetic tutorial asset, which is far more challenging with far more functionality available to the user. The new asset, was added to the extensive Nafta College library of synthetic assets, and was first presented at DECOM.
According to the standings, the Tatneft (Silur) team secured the first place by achieving a fantastic result, the team of the Ufa Scientific and Technical Center (Yura) came second, and university team from St. Petersburg Mining University (Devon) came third.

Throughout the event, all participants had a chance to get their hands on one of a kind field development simulator - PetroCup. Teams formed out of members from Gazprom Neft, Tatneft, NOVATEK-NTC, Bashneft-Petrotest, SevKomNeftegaz, RN-Bashnipineft, JSC VNIIneft (Zarubezhneft), as well as Kazan Federal University.
A team from Sevkomneftegaz came out victorious and proudly claimed the PetroCup trophy shortly followed by NOVATEK-NTC and Bashneft-Petrotest respectively. In addition to general sessions, over 40 technology related presentations and live demos were organized including: multi-well testing, analysis of sweep efficiency in cross-well interval, reservoir-oriented production logging, analysis of behind casing cross-flows, planning and managing the development, as well as live software demos and methodologies for data processing and interpretation.
The last forum made a wide appeal, therefore the event host - Nafta College already began preparations for the next DECOM-2021, which will be held in Moscow.

This event was attended by more than 150 representatives of the oil and gas industry. This time, the PetroCup was won by the team (from TGT and Tyumen State University).
